One of the core values of No_System is See Beneath the Surface. The augmented reality in some of the designs is part of that in that there are things you can't see until you look at them through the app, but it's a way of life as well.
There's a line in the movie Dead Poets Society that comes from Henry David Thoreau's Walden Pond:
"I wanted to live deep and suck all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner"
He was talking about not living a surface level life to get in and wrestle with a visceral and alive life. He saw beneath the surface in his way. We often judge others or get judged by how we might appear. Whether it's not being the "right" race, being queer, having hair that's managed to become a color that nature never intended, or even just not lining up with how a segment of the world thinks you should be, people don't look beneath the surface and see the person.
It's really hard to change the world on a macro level. Sometimes it feels like injustice is the way things are always going to be. See Beneath the Surface is a small way to maybe poke someone and make them think a little. Maybe it starts a small chain-reaction that we'll never know about, or maybe it's just a cool design.
